The Best of 2019

2019 was our sixth (!) season of photographing weddings together, and unlike years past, when we’ve jumped at every opportunity to travel for work, we intentionally turned down most weddings that weren’t within a two hour drive of our house in Central Vermont. While it’s never easy to say no to photographing in new, exciting places, we wanted to focus on getting to know our neck of the woods even more, and to learn to balance running a quality business in our first year of being parents to our daughter, Lila, who turns a year old at the end of January.

Our first year of parenting while photographing a fully booked season helped us gain fresh perspectives while documenting weddings, build better workflows, and realize more than ever how much fun we have working together. We not only see a wedding from the perspective of each couple, we now better understand the joy and emotion the parents of our brides and grooms experience throughout the day, and have loved documenting that viewpoint.

While perspectives have grown this year, other things have remained the same. We’ve met up in person with each couple before their wedding to get to know them and their neighborhood (we take trips to Boston every other month and coordinate trips with our clients coming up to Vermont). Most importantly, we’ve continued to increase the quality of photos we deliver by learning new techniques, maintaining deep friendships with other talented wedding photographers, and kept an ongoing conversation with each other on how to expand our unique perspectives and style.

Among the highlights of this year have been the Vermont venues we’ve photographed for the first time, some favorites were- CrossHaven Farm, Bliss Ridge Farm, the Vermont Wedding Barn, Hulbert Outdoor Center, and Big Picture Farm. We also loved turning our engagement sessions into adventures, documenting our couples diving in the water, exploring national monuments, riding horses, starting impromptu snowball fights, and playing with puppies. While we stayed mostly on the east coast this year, one epic elopement took us to Banff and Yoho national parks in Alberta, Canada, where we photographed in some out-of-this-world scenery and vacationed in a 1986 Volkswagen Vanagon.

We’re so excited for 2020 as we look forward to several weddings at one of our favorite places- Ohana Family Camp, and others in Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, the Berkshires, Washington, DC, and some new venues in Vermont. Thank you to everyone who cheers us on along the way, we are so lucky to have so many wonderful clients, friends, and family in our lives!
