Carson and Mitch's Fire and Ice Elopement on the Hartland Dam in Hartland, Vermont

Carson and Mitch met in the midst of the pandemic last spring, set up on a blind date by Mitch’s grandfather, and they fell in love almost instantly. They spent the past few months planning the most beautiful, meaningful elopement on the frozen Hartland Dam, just a mile from where they currently live. While they were prepared for all the types of weather Vermont tends to throw at us in mid-February, the day dawned seasonably mild with soft gray skies and no wind, perfect for their torch lighting ceremony. Throughout their sacred ceremony, we kept hearing the call of a nearby eagle over the dam. I loved how Carson honored both her grandmothers by wearing their fur coats, and how excited their dog, Joplin, was when they were announced husband and wife! They’re spending the next few days cross country skiing, going for a sleigh ride, eating fancy meals, and staying at the nearby Woodstock Inn.
